Abbeyleix Bog visited by Minister Noonan

A long overdue ministerial visit to Abbeyleix Bod where my colleague, Minister Pippa Hackett, and I opened 'Urusla's Way' - a new walk created by Hugh Shepherd. Hugh has contributed so much of his time and talent to this wonderful project and the walk is named after his late wife - a fitting tribute.

We took the shorter looped walk where we looked at rhodo management, rewetting, removal of bracken, creating scrapes for biodiversity, and the future development of the bog.

It is one of the great exemplars of collaborative and community action for biodiversity in the country, led by incredibly dedicated people with wide support from the people of Abbeyleix.

An all too short a visit. I'll have to come back soon. Thanks to everyone for their time today.
